Historic café in the heart of Newark's Marketplace.
Our speciality coffee beans, loose leaf tea and hot chocolate are also available for you to buy so you can create your own favourite blend at home.
The Governors House is a historic landmark in Newark. Enjoy a drink and a snack in our café or even a afternoon tea in our gallery room. Be entertained by local musicians or even come and play yourself!
Do not forget to check out the long drop toilet! Rumoured to have been used by Charles I.
Gone to heaven.
Just had a coffee and fruit cake slice in the newly opened “ The Governers House-1474â€. It was delicious. The upstairs is open as exhibition room. If you like the association with Newarks Civil War era or just love 550 year old buildings it really worth a visit. I am not an owner or anything to do with the place just an avid fan of old properties
Will definitely use as my go to coffee place.
Staff friendly and very welcoming. Coffee and cake yummy. A gem for Newark
This building is a gem and so is the Coffee supplier !!
Access is free to a building that is a National Treasure and is being lovingly maintained by it’s new owner as a community hub. I enjoyed the wonderful pianist and the violinist recently and people were encouraged to sing – it was like stepping back to a better time.
Plus there are eclectic pieces of art and furniture around the 4 floors.
The Coffees from local company Cherizena are super and can be bought there and now that they have started a delicious range of food I could stay all day.
Best 5* in Newark and open for all ages, I had a great day there this weekend with my friend’s 90 year old Nan.
